Cold water immersion If you don't try, you will never know

Updated: Apr 20, 2023

There are many reasons why I love cold water immersions.

Firstly for health reasons, I have Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis, which basically means I have bony hardening of the ligaments in areas where they are attached to my spine. Some days the pain is intense and I call it HULK (after the superhero) because that is when I just want to rip my chest open.

The cold water helps me cope with the pain, the cold numbs my body, it also helps to reduce inflammation and the swimming keeps me moving.

The rest of the reasons are for fun fun fun.

Connecting with people who enjoy the same thing, creating bonds with strangers while embracing the cold water.

That initial shock to the body which causes brain freeze, is soon over and after a while you are floating on your back, watching the sky, the clouds, the birds that fly by and hope one of them don't poop on you.

Some days the water is so rough, that you are in your "chops" and you have only been in the water for 30 minutes and then there are days when you know and you feel blessed and loved to just be able to enjoy Mother Nature at her best with the sun shining down on you, while you are at peace with yourself and the world and absorbing the warmth that she is giving you.

There are many reasons to not try it but there are also many reasons why you should.

Have an awesome day
